I went to 경운궁.
If we know little bit more about 경운궁's name, we can find
sad story.
That, many people knows not 경운궁, they know it's name is
덕수궁,
Even I was confused, too.
Original name of 덕수궁 is 경운궁.
In Japanese invasion, Japanese changed 경운궁's name to 덕수궁.
It has some sad stories like this, but there are many interesting
structures.
First, 석어당 was very memorable.
It's only two-storey building in the palace.
And it's building that Inmok-Queen Mother was locked in
석어당 under the order of King 광해군.
Thing that there is no 단청 was also interesting, and I think
it is one thing that makes 석어당 unique.
Next, 함녕전 was also one of the interesting building for me.
함녕전 was king's sleeping place.
And part that was interesting was 함녕전 was place where
king 고종 died.
Also, here is where last emperer 순종 stayed sometimes.
Lastly, there was 석조전.
We learned that 경운궁 was the first palace to contain some
western-style buildings.
석조전 is western-style stone building.
석조전 have living-room for government officials, a reception hall,
and bedrooms for the king and queen.
This building was very unique in 경운궁 palace because it was
western-style stone building.
Also, there was many interesting things like,
자격루(water-clock), and I learned many new things like,
주방상궁, and 대령숙수 and many historical stories in 경운궁.
I can grandly say that today's experience was very
special experient.
