Culture of the Goyeo Dynasty

Hello, my name is Jun, and today I will talk about the culture of theGoryeo Dynasty.

First, I will talk about how Goyeo was made. In 918 AD, Wanggeon founded the Goryeo. He hoosed Gaeseong to be the capital of Goryeo. Also, the name, 'Korea' has derived from the name, 'Goryeo'. But, there were also the Late Three Kingdoms than goryeo. At the last period of the Late Silla, the Hojok were much stronger than the Late Silla, so the Silla Nobles were losing their power. Gungye established the Late Goguyeo, and Gyeonhwon established the Late Baekje. Wangun succeeded Gungye, and at last, Goryeo unified the three countries.

Korea had the oldest wood and metal printing documents. Also the 팔만대장경 was made from the wood printing documents. There are other documents printed suck as the 무구정광대다라니경, 상정고금예문, 구텐베르의 성경, and the직지심체요절.

I also want to talk about Kim Jeongho's Daedongyeojido. It is a map drawn by Kim Jeongho in 1861. It is drawn in 22 sheets, and the entire map measures anout 6.6 meters in length and 4 meters in width. We can know that how hard was it to make this map.

At the Gaya period, the 5th century, the plate armor and helmet were evolved. To win a battle, you need armors and weapons. In the Gaya period, there were weapons such as arrows, spears, and swords.

The armors slowly developed from feathers to bones, bones to iron. But, only noblemen could wear iron rmor and riding horses.

There was a big war against the Mongols and Goryeo, because that the Goryeo didn't pay the Mongols, so there became a war. Instead of fighting to mongols, Goryeo retreated to Ganghwa Island and fought there. Now, only common peple were left. But, the common people fought bravely. When the government was changed, they made a special men called 'Sambyeolcho', and continued to resist for three years.

There was a change in the potteries. There are earthenware, ceramic ware, celadon, and porcelain. They developed glazing skills and produced high-quality potteries. They alo started o make incense burners. Other techniques have been developed such as carving into the clay. The designs on the pottery will turn black when glazed and fired.

Today, I talked about the Culture of the Goryeo. I wish that I could learn a lot more later. Thank you for reading my essay.
