Today, I went to the National Museum of Korea. I want to talk about 'The Founding Myth of Korea'.
Along time ago, Hwanung, who was the son of heaven, ruled the land and the people. There lived a tiger and a bear.
The tiger and the bear wanted to be a human so bad, they prayed hard to Hwanung every day. One day, Hwanung called the two animals and gave them garlic and mugwort. He told them they could only be a human if they only eat garlic and mungwort for 100 days in a cave with no sunlight.
The tiger gave up after 3 days, but the bear stayed and became a human after 20 days. The bear became a beautiful woman, called Ungnyeo.
Hwanung took Ungnyeo as a wife. Between them, came a son. He was named Dangun. Dangun named the land 'Gojoseon'. It was the first kingdom.
