Do you know abut the founding myth of korea? It's the myth about how the first kingdom of the korean peninsula was established. The story starts with 환웅, the son of heaven, ruled the people. The tiger and the bear wished to become human, so 환웅 decided to grant their wishes. But there was a circumstance to eat garlic and mugwort for 100 days. A little while later, the tiger gave up but the bear didn't. So 환웅 made the bear into human, 웅녀. But 웅녀 was lonely and wanted to have a baby, so 환웅 took 웅녀 as a wife and gave birth to a son. They named him 단군 and he was the first king who established Gojoseon, the first kingdom of the Korean peninsula.
Most of people don't believe this myth, but we don't blame our ancestors because we understand that it is very grateful to establish a country. Also there is a story that there was the tiger tribe and the bear tribe who wanted to corporate with 환웅. And the bear tribe won. So 환웅 and the bear tribe established Gojoseon.
From these myths, I hope you to know how grateful the establishment of korea was, not just thinking that it's a lie. Thank you. |
