The National museum of History is the second largest museum in the country holding some the of the nations most valuable artifacts. Walking through the museum gives you a general broad idea of the evolution of mankind to the development of civilizations. I learned that most of the time civilizations started near rivers during the Neolithic Period when people settled down. When people settled down near rivers it was easier for them to farm growing an abundance of food and found the need to store them.
Some artifacts made during the Neolithic Period is the comb-pattered pottery, needles made of animal bones, and further crafted hand axes that evolved from the Palaeolithic Period. I personally thought the comb-pattered pottery was the most interesting artifact because it told us that people now had enough food that they had to store it. Also the slanted patterers symbolized rain so it wished them for a better year of farming but also prevented the pottery from cracking while it baked. The National Museum of History helped me see the major picture of history from Palaeolithic to Neolithic to where we are today. I look forward to brining my family along and explain to them what we learned today.
