Today was my first visit to Unhyungung. So I watched each building carefully. After watching around, I found some interesting things about gates.
There are 2 interesting gates. One is the lofty gate which is higher than the beside's roof, and another is the lower gate. I was curious why they didn't made gates similarly. The reason was this. The lofty gate was to represent the pride of the noblemen, and the lower gate was to represent modesty. It was very interesting because 흥선대원군 didn't built things without reasons even the gate.
Also there was a cube shaped rock beside the lofty gate. I wondered why this elaborately carved rock was there. But I knew that the rock had its name, 노둣돌, and it was used usefully as getting on the 가마 or a horse easily. This was the most amazing thing to me about the palace.
I heard that government bought some grounds which belongs to Unhyungung. I hope the left grounds and buildings not to be sold or destroyed anymore. Thank you. |
