The place where the king lives are called 'gung(궁)'.Besides the five royal palaces Gyeongbokgung(경북궁), Changdeokgung(창덕궁), Changgyeongung(창경궁), Gyeongungung(경운궁) and Gyeonghuigung(경희궁), there are other palaces called 'gung' in Hanyang. The palace is Unhyeongung(운현궁). This was the residence of King Gojong's father, Heungseon Daewongun(흥성대원군). He had more strong power than a young king in Joseon. I can get a glimpse of how strong his power in Unhyeongung.
First, the Lofty Gate is high and taller than the tiled roots of nearby houses. This shows the pride of the nobles. They ride in on palanquins or horses, so they can't get in if the gate is low. Second, Sujiksa is on the right of the main gate. There lived guards and servants.
