Today, I went to the Namsan Hanok village. And I'm going to tell you about the chamber pot and the Ondol heating system. First, during Joseon period, the toilet was placed far away from the house, because of the smell. However, there was the small pet called chamber pot in the room for the urination. This chamber pot was only in the noble men houses.
Second, Korea's ancestors usually lived on the floor so during winter, they needed to heat the floor. And they had the Ondol system. Ondol system works in a away that the hot air coming from the furnace pass through heating ways under the floor of the house so floor become warm.
It was nice to learn about how the old people lived in tiled roofed house and the thatched roofed house. |
