Today I visited 경운궁 which is one of the east palces in Seoul. 경운궁 was a private house(잠저) for 성종's brother, 월산 대군. But after Japanese Invation of Korea in 1592, it became a palace because 경복궁 was destroyed. I went many buildings in 경운궁, and I impressed by one building name '정관헌'. 정관헌 is a rest place for King Jojong. He drank coffee, and get some rest at there, looking around the scenery. There are two remarkable things at 정관헌. First, at the back of 정관헌 there is a secret tunnel that head to the Russia assembly. King Jojong made this because of his fear about assassination. Actuallly there were two times that tried to assassinate King Jojong. In addition, there was a funny episode in 정관헌. When King Jojong first knew about coffee, he didn't know how to drink it. So he drank coffee at one time in soju-cup. Of course he felt very hot. Next time he drank it little by little. In conclusion, I think 정관헌 is such a meaningful place to know about the modern history of Dae Han Empire. |
