Deoksugung had western styled structures like Jeonggwangheon or Seokjojeon. It's because during that time Chosun Dynasty started to accept the western culture. Jeonggwangheon was a place that King Gojong used to enjoy coffee and music. It had a brilliant flower shaped lights on the ceiling. Seokjojeon's column had a similar design like the ones during baroque and rococo time in western countries. The most important place was Junghwajeon, where the king used to stay. A golden dragon was on the ceiling and Irwolobongbyeong was behind the king's gigantic seat . The sun and moon represented king and the queen, and water represented people. It looked like common trees and water we see on usuall lives, but it was special that Irwolobongbyeong had a meaning at each part of the picture. The way that western culture and korean culture getting along made Deoksugung and interesting palace considered to other palaces. |
