Before I went into the Gyeongungung Palace, I saw the guard keepers alternation. They seem very hot and tired while doing it. Anyway I went into the Palace and heard the story about 황궁우 and 원구단. 원구단's purpose is to pray for sky. Before we couldn't pray to sky, but after the Joseon Dynasty became the Daehan Empire, we could. Unfortunately, now 원구단 is destroyed and there's Joseon Hotel in its place. The first thing we saw right after the 원구단 story, was 하마비. It is a kind of sign about people should come down from their horses and show respect to the king. 하마비 was originally placed outside the Palace, but Japanese made a path in front of the Palace, so they moved 하마비 into the Palace. When I heard this story, I thought that almost every harmful things were done by Japanese. I was very dumbfounded. There were many buildings to learn so my head got hurted. But it was very meaningful for me because there were many behind stories. It was a pleasant day. |
