Hello, my name is Dasom Lee.  Today, I went to Namsan Hanok Village.  There were many tiled roof houses.  I was interested in the tiled roof.

  Becarse of its design, Hanok could be sturdy if the roof is heavy.  That's why the tiles are heavy.  Nowadays, many people use the tiles because they look so cool.  However, nowadays' tiles are cheap cement tiles.  The traditional tiles can stay sturdy more than 150 years, but the cement tiles can stay sturdy like 20 to 30 years.  It means our ancestors were very smart, and good at architecting.  In the Joseon Dynasty, tiles had hmportant meaning. For example, living at a tiled-roof house means that the family was rich.  Also, only the palace and temples could use Danchung.  But I think all Hanok is great even if it doesn't have tiled-roof.

  I think the Hanok is very scientific, and beautiful.  I think we should learn much from our ancestors.  Thank you for listening.
