Today, we went to The Seoul Museum of History.(¼¿ï¿ª»ç¹Ú¹°°ü) There were hopaes(È£ÆÐ), maps of Joseon Dynasty(Á¶¼±½Ã´ë Áöµµ), and other things. I got interested in hopae and hyungbae(Èä¹è), things that we learned from our class.

A hopae was an identification card in the Joseon period. On the front was the name, class, and the date of birth of the person. On the back was the day the hopae was made. They were used to go in and out of a palace or cities.

A hyungbae was a patch embroidered on the clothes of officials. There were two types of animals that can be embroidered on the patch. The crane meant integrity, and the tiger meant bravery. If the crane was embroidered on the clothes, it meant that the person who wore the clothing was a civil official(¹®½Å). If a tiger was embroidered on the patch, it meant the person who wore it was a military official(¹«½Å).
If there were two animals on the patch, it meant the person who wore it was in the higher class than the person who wore with only one animal on the patch.
