Today we went to Gyeongbokgung Palace(°æº¹±Ã). In there, we learned about dragon ridges
(¿ë¸¶·ç), Gwanghwamun(±¤È¹®), Geunjeongjeon(±ÙÁ¤Àü), and other Joseon buildings. I got interested in the Chinese zodiac and the Four Gods of North, South, East and West(½ÊÀÌÁö½Å & µ¿¼³²ºÏÀÇ »ç½Å) and the haetae(ÇØÅÂ). So, Iwill tell you about the haetae and the Chinese zodiac and the Four Gods of North, South, East and West.

The Chinese zodiac animals were carved from stone. They were placed on the handle of the stairs to protect the king. But the dog's and the pig's statue couldn't be there. There was not enough space because there were also the carvings of the Four Gods of North, South, East and West.

The Haetae is a mythical creature that the Eastern people believed. It guards Gwanghwamun from evil spirits.
