Hello, my name is Mingwan, and I will tell you about the Gwolnaegaksa building in Gyeongbokgung Palace.
Gwolnaegaksa are offices inside the Gyeongbokgung palace. The most famous offices there are Gyujanggak and Sujeongjeon. Gyujanggak is a library for scholars and officials, while Sujeongjeon is a place for officials to study. Sujeongjeon is also called Jibhyeonjeon. In Sejong¡¯s reign, Sejong and other scholars studied and made Hangeul. When King Sejong was dying, he told the scholars to protect his grandson, who was to be king, Danjong, from his greedy relative, Sejo. However, Sejo rose to power, and the scholars got killed to protect Danjong like Sejong¡¯s will. Those scholars are called Sayugsin. Also, there were some scholars who decided to live quietly to protest greedy Sejo and poor Danjong. They are called Saengyugsin because they lived through Sejo¡¯s reign without getting killed like the Sayugsin.
I was interested and proud that I¡¯m one of the direct descendants of one of the Saengyugsin. I want to learn more about that story. Thank you for listening. ^^
