Hello, my name is Nuri. Today, I would like to introduce the history of the Silla Dynasty and its reunification of the Korean Peninsula. After Silla's golden age began, Baekje and Goguryeo stopped fighting with each other, formed an alliance, and attacked Silla from both sides. This was especially due to Silla's betrayal of Baekje—taking over the entire Han River region and killing Baekje's king. In retaliation, King Uija of Baekje led his forces and captured 40 castles belonging to Silla. Later, Baekje advanced toward Daya, near the Silla capital, Gyeongju (then known as Geumseong), and successfully seized the area. Tragically, the defender of the castle, Kim Chun-chu's daughter, lost her life during the attack.

Recognizing the need for reinforcements, Silla first approached Goguryeo for help but was met with a demand to return their old territories, which Silla refused. Forced to seek another ally, Silla turned to the Tang Dynasty (modern-day China). Tang's initial goal was to defeat Goguryeo, but their strength made it impossible to succeed alone. Tang and Silla agreed to join forces, with Tang focusing on Goguryeo and Silla targeting Baekje. Together, they launched a coordinated campaign.

Under the leadership of Kim Yu-sin and So Jung-bang, Silla defeated Baekje forces led by General Gyebaek. Baekje fell and disappeared from history as Silla and Tang took its capital. Turning their attention to Goguryeo, Silla and Tang eventually won a decisive victory at the Battle of Pyongyang, Goguryeo's capital. However, Tang revealed its ambitions to control the entire Korean Peninsula, which Silla opposed. Silla launched a counterattack against Tang, defeating them at the Battle of Maeso. This allowed Silla to unify the Korean Peninsula.

This unification was made possible by the efforts of Kim Chun-chu, who formed the Tang alliance, General Kim Yu-sin, who led the campaigns against Baekje and Goguryeo, and King Munmu, who fully achieved the unification. I never expected Silla, the smallest kingdom, to reunify the Korean Peninsula. Initially, I believed Goguryeo would accomplish unification due to its vast territories and strong military. This achievement by Silla was nothing short of a miracle.

I wish for the Korean Peninsula to be unified once again, bringing together North and South Korea as one nation. Historically, we were one land since Silla's unification of Goguryeo. Let us hope and strive for a peaceful future where the Korean Peninsula is united once more.
