Hello, my name is Mingwan. I would like to tell you about the Gwageo exam of Joseon Dynasty.
The Gwageo exam was actually divided into two exams. First, the nobles took an exam called Sogwa. If they passed, they went to Seonggyungwan, Joseon¡¯s university. At Seonggyungwan, when they got to the cafeteria, Jinsasikdang, they had to sign an attendance list to get 1 point each day. If they got 300 points, they could take the next exam. The next exam was called Daegwa. If the noblemen passed, they were among the 33 people who only passed each test. Then, they could be state officials. However, some of the noblemen cheated in Gwageo. The tests were mostly about Confucianism, so they had small cheat papers called hyeopseo. Also, there was a thing called chasi which was having someone else to take the exam.
I was very interested in Gwageo, especially the nobles¡¯ cheating method. I think cheating in Gwageo is very bad, but I would like to learn more about ways the noblemen cheated in Gwageo.
